Luxury hotel? maybe....

275,000 kwacha a week. For a hotel. Thats 1,650,000 for the six weeks. Sounds like a lot. Sounds like there should be white linens. Butlers. Mimosas. Hot tubs. Massages. Free rides on elephants to say the least.

That's until you convert kwachas to dollars. 275,000 kwachas = 54 dollars. Not quite as expensive or luxurious sounding. I guess thats why they tell you to bring your own mosquito net.

So I'll be staying in the dorms at the Malaria Research Institute in Macha. I think the institute is more along the lines of a small building. I get my own bathroom and they give me breakfast. Somehow at the end of this, I think I'm really going to appreciate my own bed with its down comforter. :-)

Welcome

So this will be the place where I share my thoughts, photos, and videos of the incredible journey I will be taking to Zambia. I'm going for two months to a rural area called Macha, Zambia. I'll be completing a HIV leadership program while working in the HIV hospital. I will be leaving at the end of March and be returning in the middle of May. It should be challenging, life-changing, beautiful, difficult, and humorous at some point. I hope this blog will be eye-opening and a chance to share my experiences with friends, family, colleagues, and strangers. So enjoy!
